Bedrock YR 1 WKS 1-4 Chaining PP Presentation

Chaining is a technique that connects text with sign, fingerspelling, and picture or conceptual cues.

In chaining you ...

* Present the vocabulary word, immediately pointing to the word

* Sign the word

* Point to the word again

* Fingerspell the word

* Point to a picture

This technique allows teachers to emphasize and highlight words, calling attention to the equivalencies between English and ASL. You can use this technique to introduce new vocabulary words to your students.

* 55 pages

Teachers - Use this PP presentation to introduce weekly Bedrock vocabulary words to your students.

Bedrock vocabulary is weekly visually based vocabulary for deaf and hard of hearing students created by Kristin A. Di Perri. Deaf children need more opportunities to practice vocabulary. These worksheets will help your students practice a week's worth of words through different activities.

Research is showing that fingerspelling can be used as a tool when teaching phonological awareness to D/HH students. With fingerspelling students can understand the printed word and also see patterns in words. Fingerspelling also helps D/HH students decode words and builds a direct relationship between ASL and printed English.
